Undergraduate CoursesPSYC 1301 Introduction to Psychology. This course will provide an overview of the field of psychological science. Different models for the study of behavior will be presented, as well as an introduction to research methods in psychology. Students will obtain an understanding of each area of psychology and learn to critically evaluate psychological research. This course is taught with a focus on the biological underpinnings of behavior PSYC 3346 Drugs, The Brain and Behavior.
This course provides a basic understanding of how drugs produce their behavioral effects. Emphasis will be placed on drugs of abuse and the principles by which these substances modify and regulate behavior in the brain. The course begins with an introduction of pharmacological and neural principles that regulate neural transmission in the brain. We also cover current theories of drug addiction and how these theories apply to different abuse substances. PSYC 2324 Introductory Neuroscience.
This course begins with the study of neuronal structure and function, and the propagation of nerve impulses and the transfer of information between cells. Other topics include sensory systems (such as olfaction, hearing, and vision), voluntary movement, higher brain functions and homeostasis, including the neurochemical bases of brain diseases and the systems which control motivation, emotion, learning and memory. |

A study of current topics and recent developments in the biochemical basis of psychopathology and related strategies of psychopharmacological intervention. Advanced study of contemporary problems and issues in selected topics in neuroscience. This specific seminar course examines the multiple forces that influence the “Politics of Drugs”, including neurobiological factors, social factors, medical factors, economic factors, etc. that contribute to drug scheduling and availability. |
